Originally from a small town in Upstate New York, Massimo Avanzato is based in New York City. Massimo is a BFA Photography Graduate with a minor in English Writing from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). His body of work ranges from videography, photography, and poetry, to songwriting, and sound design. Massimo's diaristic work dissects the complex layers of his identity and self to visually capture the essence of an emotion or state of mental being.

Massimo’s work has been shown both in print, online, as well as in gallery spaces. He was a featured artist in Issue 47 (September-October 2018) of Noisy Rain, an online gay arts magazine. In New York City, his work has been shown at spaces including Sonder III Exhibition, the Art & Design Gallery at FIT, SUNY Administration Building (Chancellor’s Office), as well as Homage, a pop up gallery in partnership with On The Fringe, in TriBeCa,  His work was also shown outside of New York in China at the 2019 Pingyao Photo Festival. Most recently, Massimo was chosen as the recipient of Adolescent's April 2022 Filmmaker/Video Grant.
